The Butler School of Music is committed to the philosophy that small group collaborations, from duos to larger, un-conducted chamber groups, establish an essential foundation in musical communication and listening skills. Chamber groups work with faculty coaches and perform in master classes, outreach events around Austin, and a final on-campus concert.
All music majors, undergraduate or graduate, have abundant opportunities to participate in chamber and collaborative music.
CHAMBER MUSIC OUTREACH PROJECT
The Chamber Music Outreach Project teaches strategies for community engagement through performance. Students enrolled in chamber music participate in one of several different community outreach projects each semester.
YOUNG PROFESSIONAL STRING QUARTET (M.M. OR A.D.)
Every two years, one advanced pre-professional ensemble is selected for a two-year residency with the Miró Quartet. The chosen quartet receives weekly instruction and private study with members of the Miró Quartet, performs with the Symphony Orchestra or the New Music Ensemble on a rotational basis, and receives comprehensive guidance in career management.
COLLABORATIVE PIANO (M.M., D.M.A., OR A.D.)
Students in the Collaborative Piano program study the tenets of solid instrumental and vocal collaborative partnership, putting their skills to use during private lessons and recitals with partners, master classes, juries, and large ensembles.
