Complete information about fall 2021 ensemble auditions will be posted here by early August at the latest.

Jazz, opera, choir, and string students audition for ensemble placement once for the whole academic year; these auditions take place in the first week of fall classes. Brass, winds and percussion players audition at the beginning of each semester.

Concert Chorale (M W F 12-2pm)
University Chorus (T Th 3:30-5pm)

All University of Texas students are eligible to audition for a choral ensemble, regardless of major. Music majors are asked to hold both choir meeting times in their course registration schedule until audition results are communicated. Non-music majors can be accepted for either ensemble as well; it is recommended for non-majors to register for University Chorus as a "place hold".

Audition Requirements

For the audition, you will be taken through a series of basic singing exercises:

  • Vocalization
  • Sight reading
  • Tonal memory
  • Rhythm reading
  • Unaccompanied song: Prepare 30 seconds (16-32 bars) of a piece that will demonstrate your musicality

Auditions will take place on August 19, 20, 21, 23 and 24.
