Ensemble Auditions

Most ensembles are open to any student in the university, subject to a successful audition.

Auditions for strings, choir, opera and jazz took place in August for the entire academic year. Brass, wind and percussion auditions for spring were completed at the end of the fall semester.

Requirements

University Orchestra is open to all students at UT Austin, regardless of major.

Spring auditions will take place on Saturday, January 7 2-6pm in the Orchestra Room, MRH 2.118.

All performers will play a brief solo excerpt*, and it can be the exposition of the first movement of a concerto or comparable excerpt, approximately 2 to 2.5 minutes in length) in addition to the required excerpts listed below.


*Performers should prepare all the excerpts. Not all the excerpts might be asked for the audition.

 Symphony Band

M W F 2-4pm

Requirements

Symphony Band is open to all students at UT Austin, regardless of major.

Spring auditions will take place on Tuesday, January 10 5:15-7pm in the Band Hall (MRH 2.114).

All performers should select one excerpt from their instrument's packet to perform for this audition.

Students auditioning for Symphony Band need to register in advance. Be sure to check this box that states you are auditioning for the UT Symphony Band only. After registering, you'll receive an email with a time slot sign-up from Tyler Ehrlich.
