Composer Nina C. Young to Join Butler School of Music Faculty

The Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin is pleased to announce the hire of Nina C. Young as Assistant Professor of Composition and Director of the Electronic Music Studios. Her contract will begin with the 2018-2019 academic year.

An educator at the Butler School since 1999, Edward Pearsall was Associate Professor of Theory. He was also president of the Texas Society for Music Theory from 2005-2008. His research on the cognition of music, theories of rhythm, and other subjects appeared in numerous publications.

Phyllis Young, 1925 - 2017

Phyllis Young, Professor Emerita of Cello and String Pedagogy, was the first holder of UT's Parker C. Fielder Regents Professorship in Music. She was a UT Music faculty member from 1953 until her retirement in 2007 and was one of the first women at UT to be promoted to full professor. In addition to her private cello studio, Mrs. Young established the Texas Cello Choir and directed the renowned UT String Project for 35 years, seeing it become a world-wide model for programs that train string teachers and young string players.
