The 2021-22 Butler School of Music performance schedule is here! After a year without in-person performances, we are safely welcoming audiences back to our community and getting back to what we love.

Individual tickets and subscription packages can be purchased on our Tickets & Subscriptions page.

This year features an array of performances, kicking off Friday, Sept. 10, with the Miró Quartet––the Butler School’s quartet in residence since 2003––in Bates Recital Hall.

The Wind Ensemble is scheduled for six performances, with the first on Sept. 26. That performance includes “Of Our New Day Begun,” by Butler School Assistant Professor of Composition Omar Thomas, which was written to commemorate the killing of nine people who were worshipping in the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church (affectionately referred to as “Mother Emanuel”) in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015.

The Butler Opera Center has a number of outstanding productions, including “Der Kaiser Von Atlantis,” by Viktor Ullmann, who collaborated with fellow inmate and librettist Peter Kien on this thought-provoking drama during their imprisonment in the Nazi concentration camp Theresienstadt. The opera season opens with Gaetano Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love,” a bubbly romantic comedy that tells the story of Nemorino, a shy and hapless peasant, in his pursuit of the betrothed heiress Adina.

The Butler School’s Symphony Orchestra has concerts throughout year, including Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125, on March 4 & 5. The concert was originally scheduled for 2020 to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday, but the concert was cancelled due to the pandemic. To view more performances, including the Butler School’s Jazz Orchestra, New Music Ensemble and faculty and guest artists, visit our events page.

The Butler School continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic closely. All tickets are general admission, so patrons can choose seats comfortably. Masks are not required inside of any building on UT Austin’s campus, though patrons are encouraged to wear them by the CDC and The University. The Butler School reserves the right to reduce audience capacity for performances based on local health guidelines. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets online and print from home to avoid lines at the Box Office.

Thank you for your patience and support as we work to bring the joy of live music back to our community.
