The Board of Directors of the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard University has chosen the Butler School's Visiting Assistant Professor of Composition Christopher Trapani as one of only fifteen composers selected to receive 2019 Fromm commissions.

Charles Ball has been the head piano technician for The University of Texas at Austin music department since 1980; he will be retiring from work at the Butler School midway through the 2019–2020 academic year.

When Andrew Stoltz was hired as the Butler School’s recording services manager in 2018, the Live Room — as it’s now called — was an underutilized audio storage space that had fallen into disrepair. But Stoltz saw something that could be central to the recording department, and also fill a gap in the school’s performance spaces: Not a control room, not a recital hall, but a space for sessions.

On January 1, 2019, the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin announced the appointment of Dr. Tamara Sanikidze as the first woman director of the Butler Opera Center.
