About the Artists

Patrick Hughes

Patrick Hughes teaches horn at The University of Texas at Austin, where he also serves as head of the brass, wind, and percussion division and directs the award-winning UT Horn Choir. Praised by The Dallas Morning News as “a dream soloist” with a “warm and honeyed” tone, Hughes has performed across the US and internationally, including a notable Asian premiere of Kazimierz Machala’s Concerto for Horn, Winds, and Percussion in Bangkok. An active performer and educator, Patrick is a member of La Follia Austin Baroque and ROCO of Houston, and regularly appears with the Austin Symphony, and a variety of touring concerts and Broadway productions. He is a frequent clinician and guest artist, with teaching and performance engagements throughout the U.S. and abroad. Hughes is also a composer and arranger, with published works available at brownwoodpublishing.com (including his new Sonata for Horn in 2026). His compositions have been premiered and performed at International and Regional Horn Symposia. His album At the Crossroads was released in October 2025 (navonarecords.com) featuring works for horn with piano, horn choir, and electronica. He performs on a custom Patterson Horn.
 

Colette Valentine

Pianist Colette Valentine has performed in important New York City and Washington, DC venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Merkin Concert Hall, the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater, the Library of Congress, and the Corcoran Gallery; and internationally in Paris, Zurich, Florence, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, and Hong Kong. She has collaborated in chamber concerts with the New York Philharmonic Winds, St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble, the Washington Chamber Society, the Left Bank Concert Society, the Grand Teton Music Festival Players, and the Miró Quartet, among others. Valentine has served as assisting pianist for numerous National and International events, and has recorded for the Naxos, Albany, fontec, Antara, Well-Tempered, and CRI labels. In the fall of 2008, she joined the faculty of the newly created collaborative piano Division at The University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, and was named director of collaborative piano in 2017.

Soha Quartet

Formed in 2024 at the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin, the Soha Quartet has rapidly distinguished itself as a prize-winning ensemble celebrated for its vibrant musicality and deep commitment to community engagement. The quartet won first prize at the 2025 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition and earned second prize plus the audience prize at the 2026 Saint Paul String Quartet Competition. Deeply invested in education and connection, the Soha Quartet has represented the Butler School of Music as community representatives for the Austin Chamber Music Center since spring 2025, performing recitals across Austin and leading coaching sessions and masterclasses for public school students. Beginning fall 2026, the quartet will continue its professional ascent as the Young Professional String Quartet in Residence at the Butler School of Music, studying under the Miró Quartet; an exciting next chapter for an ensemble already making a marked impact on stage, in education, and within the community.
