undergraduate opera students perform an opera scene on stage, dressed in black.

Opera Ensemble

The Butler Opera Center Ensemble provides performance and stage production opportunities for undergraduate students interested in opera. Participants are selected by audition and enrolled in a class that meets three times weekly.  Additional hours are required for musical and staging rehearsals as dictated by the Butler Opera Center performance schedule. Inclusion in the ensemble is dependent on a student's availability, and consists of both group and individual lessons. Under close mentorship of the Butler Opera Center faculty, members of the Butler Opera Center Ensemble study every aspect of opera performance including musical preparation, such as languages, style, and vocal and ensemble techniques, and stagecraft, such as movement, costuming, and make-up.
