Teaching Assistant in Jazz Studies

Having started playing trombone at the age of 9, Sam Dimov quickly discovered an affinity for the instrument. While still in high school, Sam joined the 287th Army Band in Wilmington, Delaware. It was during his training at the Army School of Music that his love for jazz and commercial music was solidified. Throughout his decade-long career with the army band, Sam played in and led NOLA-style brass bands, jazz combos, big bands, brass quintets and ensembles, commercial bands, concert bands, and ceremonial marching bands. Sam was also a clinician, instructor, and director for various groups and ensembles in the army band. Sam’s time spent with the army band helped him develop and build on fundamentals of performing, which he uses today to tell a powerful, captivating story every time he picks up the horn.

As the leader of the Sam Dimov Quintet/Trio, a member of Sofrito y Su Melao, Hepner's Rebellion, and various ensembles within the 287th Army Band, while working as a sideman with numerous other ensembles and productions, Sam has been able to develop a firm grasp on versatility and adaptability in today’s music industry. Sam recently moved to Austin, TX, where he quickly became an in-demand trombonist with groups in an array of genres and styles, from jazz and bluegrass, to pop and Latin music.

It was through his professional musical experiences that Sam learned to be adventurous with his music, and to nurture his insightful ability to cultivate an environment of growth, integrity, and community through music, enjoyed by his colleagues and audiences everywhere.

Sam holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance from Temple University, and is currently pursuing his Master of Music in Jazz Performance at UT Austin.

Sam is a B.A.C. Performing Artist and plays a B.A.C. Custom trombone.
