Sandra Moreno, marimba
Sara Curruchich was born in 1993 in San Juan Comalapa, Chimaltenango, a Kaqchikel community of the central Guatemalan highlands. Her people have a long-standing tradition of art and knowledge, but also of strength, resistance, and struggle. In this way, her musical perspective is based on the collective and individual feeling of her people’s history, memory, culture, languages and struggles.
Curruchich is the first indigenous Guatemalan singer to take her songs in Kaqchikel — her mother tongue — and Spanish international. Her voice and her message of love, awareness, respect and defense for life in all firms has made her a bearer of light and hope for many.
