Biography

Dr. Avila's  research interests include Mexican modernism, nationalism, and cinema and media studies. She was a recipient of the UC MEXUS Dissertation Research Grant and the American Musicological Society's Howard Meyer Brown Fellowship, and has presented her research at several conferences in the United States and Mexico. She is currently writing a book manuscript tentatively titled CineSonidos: Cinematic Music in Early Mexican Film, which examines meaning and cultural representation in Mexican film music.
