Workshop: Improvisation in Early Music

Share

Everyone can improvise: Before 1900 many musicians improvised, and many of the compositions we perform are rooted in improvisation. In this workshop oboist and early music specialist Robert de Bree will take you on a journey past some of the basic techniques and approaches musicians used to improvise. Participants will use the scale as a starting point, so if you can play a C major scale, you can do this workshop!

We will improvise preludes, ornamentation, start canonic improvisation and much more. Finally, you will be introduced to using your own repertoire to make your own music!

Curious what is out there about improvisation? Check out www.thescrollensemble.com/improv for resources.

Open to all students. All instruments and voice types are welcome.
