The Butler Opera Center (BOC), nurtured by generous donations from Sarah and Ernest Butler and led by Professor Robert DeSimone, has achieved national recognition for its stirring and extraordinary performances. The invaluable experience BOC provides has been the career foundation for countless students. Eight years ago, BOC added its innovative Young Artist Program—a summer program designed to help gifted young solo performers expand their performance skills and prepare for college auditions. This program, led by Professor Darlene Wiley, has been recognized as one of the nation’s best summer opera programs for young artists. This year, BOC is proud to present a new summer program: Butler Opera International, led by Professor Wiley and Professor DeSimone. When fully implemented, this program will competitively select the world’s most gifted pre-professional singers who are ready to launch their careers. The selected singers will come to The University of Texas where they will perform arias and duets in a concert setting with the Round Rock Symphony. This performance will be professionally recorded for the singers to use in future auditions.
