Texas Choirs

The Choral Area at the  Butler School of Music has a long history of preparing the future choral conductors and singers of America. We offer several collegiate curricular ensembles all of which perform diverse repertoire from all time periods at an extremely high level. In addition to performances with the UT Choirs, students regularly participate in various other performances all over the Austin Metropolitan Area including Chorus Austin, Consipirare, Austin Opera, and the Butler Opera Center.

Graduates of the Butler Choral Studies Department hold positions as conductors, teachers, singers, and managers of choirs all over the world. We encourage you to find a home in one of our fantastic choral ensembles!

Longhorn Singers

Founded in 1958, Longhorn Singers was pioneered by the late Dr. Morris Beachy, the head of the choral program at the time, by combining the men’s and women’s glee clubs into one performing ensemble. He envisioned an entirely different group for UT Austin, one attracting music majors and non-music majors alike to participate in a type of performance that would convey a new sense of Texas pride on both the university and state level.

Currently an independant organization, Longhorn Singers is  the premier show choir of The University of Texas at Austin. It is open to all students university wide, by audition.
