Teaching Assistant in Opera
Taiwon Kim is a Tenor with extensive opera experience. He is currently completing his doctoral degree at the University of Texas at Austin.
He received his bachelor's degree from Seoul National University in Korea where he performed the role of Rodolfo (La Boheme) and was a featured in a masterclass with Tenor, Francisco Araiza. He was also featured in the Chatauqua summer program that year and went on to collaborate with the Boulder Symphony Orchestra. In 2013 he debuted the role of Ernesto (Don Pasquale) at the Gangdong Arts Center in Korea and again at Daegu Opera House in 2014.
He earned his master's degree from Mannes School of Music where he played the role of Don Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Tony (West Side Story) in the 100th anniversary celebratory performance for composer Leonard Bernstein at the Mannes School of Music.
During his studies at the Butler school, he played Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Chinese Prince (Tea: A Mirror of Soul), and performed in Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti. He also covered Lenski in Eugene Onegin. In addition, he performed large and small roles in several operas, including Manon Lescaut, Rigoletto and Andrea Chénier. This season he will debut the role of Alfredo in Butler Opera Center's La Traviata.
