Chinese Bass, George Jiayi Baolin, is pursuing a doctor of musical arts  in opera performance at The University of Texas at Austin under the tutelage of Leah Crocetto. He previously received a professional studies certificate and a master of music from Manhattan School of Music in New York, and bachelor of arts degrees in economics and music performance from Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He has performed many leading roles in the Butler Opera Center including Proving Up (Sodbuster), Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Coppelius), La Bohème (Colline), Tea: A Mirror of Soul (Emperor), and The Queen of Spades (Surin). In the 2024/2025 season, He will perform in La Traviata, The Ghosts of Versailles, and Le Nozze di Figaro. Previous credits include Acis and Galatea (Polyphemus) and opera outreach program Mary Popera (Mr.Bing) with Manhattan School of Music; Tosca (Sciarrone) with music festival in San Martino in Italy. Scene work includes Le nozze di Figaro (Bartolo), L’italiana in Algeri(Haly), and Ernani (Silva)with Classical Lyric Arts. Along with his work in the standard repertoire, Mr. Baolin has also performed many pieces as soloist along with choir and chamber music groups in Europe, Asia, and North America.
