Assistant Instructor in Jazz Studies

Originally from San Antonio, Tx, Gene Centeno is a professional saxophonist and music educator based out of Austin, Tx. He obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Performance from Texas State University, and a Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance from The University of Texas at Austin. Gene has performed and recorded with many artists locally and nationally, such as, Grammy Award Winning - Grupo Fantasma, The Latin Players, Andre Hayward, Greg Boyer, The Temptations, Prince, Maceo Parker, Sheila E and many others. Currently Gene is amidst earning a Doctoral of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. He also fulfills a music education role as a Jazz Studies Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Texas, while taking part in Austin’s rich and diverse musical domain.
