Averil has had the distinct pleasure to serve in education for a decade. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Journalism from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. 

Averil is thrilled to return to the College of Fine Arts where he previously served as an Administrative Associate for Theatre and Dance until summer 2020.  Prior to joining the University of Texas, Averil worked at The School of Theater, Film and Television at the University of California – Los Angeles. 

While a collegiate student-athlete Averil performed in student theatrical productions and various artistic collaborations. Averil received a scholarship to American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Manhattan, New York but decided to move to Los Angeles. Averil studied acting at various studios and was a part of theatrical productions. His artistic highlight was performing Miss Evers’ Boys at the National Black Theatre Festival in Winston Salem, North Carolina. 

In addition to education, Averil has worked in various industries that include Oil & Natural Gas, television production, and social services. He gained invaluable skills and knowledge from this work experience.

Averil will be working on his master’s degree in Higher Education and Leadership Policy right here at UT beginning Summer 2024. 

He was born and raised in Austin but has an immense connection with Los Angeles. Averil is married to Veronica, and they have three children (Bryan, Averil III, and Kyla) plus their family dog, Koda.
