We are proud to announce that Yevgeniy Sharlat, associate professor of composition and music theory at the Butler School of Music, has been selected by Kronos Quartet to compose a new string quartet for Fifty for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire.

The Longhorn Alumni Band Charitable Fund has made a gift to The University of Texas at Austin of just over $83,000 to complete the funding of five scholarships established by the late Vincent R. DiNino, former Director of the Longhorn Band.

Sonia Seeman, associate professor of ethnomusicology, received a Fulbright Scholar grant to conduct research in Turkey for a book project. She plans to write about music as a form of labor, and will explore this issue through conducting research and supplementing already-collected materials on three Romani, or “Gypsy,” professional musician families.

Professor Bob Duke, head of Music and Human Learning at the Butler School, is among three educators who will be inducted into the University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers on April 19. He's also the only University of Texas at Austin professor this year to be inducted.

The 2016 College of Fine Arts commencement speaker is dancer and choreographer Alvin Rangel (M.F.A. Dance, 2012). This year's commencement takes place May 20.
