About the Artists

Nick Photinos

​Four-time Grammy Award-winning cellist Nick Photinos is a champion of the new, with programs that subvert and delight in equal measure. An ardent advocate for new music, Photinos has collaborated, toured, and recorded with artists ranging from Dawn Upshaw, Philip Glass, and the Bang on a Can All-Stars, to Björk, Wilco, Bryce Dessner, and Bonnie “Prince” Billy. He has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras including the Cleveland, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Toronto, Utah, and Atlanta Symphonies, and performed across the globe including the Sydney Opera House, the Barbican in London, KBC Hall in Seoul, and in the US from Disney Hall to Carnegie Hall in New York City. Photinos was the founding cellist and Artistic Director of Eighth Blackbird from 1996-2020, and since Fall 2023 has served as professor of chamber music and eminent scholar at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Selina Xu

Selina Xu received the Bachelor of Music Performance in 2024 at UT Austin where she studies cello with Professor Bion Tsang. Throughout her music trajectory, she has been an active musician in solo, chamber, and orchestral music, collaborating with diverse artists around the world. In the past summers, Xu has participated various music festivals such as SCL Festival (2017), NYO China (2020), and Miami Music Festival (2022). Aside from performance field, Xu is also fascinated in promoting diverse culture heritage in music. In 2024, she awarded the annual Rainwater Grant at the Butler School to fund her research on Shanghai Jazz Project. She believes that music has the power to generate cultural understanding and appreciation. Now, Xu is continuing to complete her master degree at UT. 

 

 

 

Xinke Fu

Xinke Fu is an cellist dedicated to pushing musical boundaries. He has collaborated with esteemed ensembles and artists, bringing dynamic energy to both solo and orchestral performances. Fu has appeared at major festivals and stages, including the YMCG Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Youth Music Week, performing with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra, and touring with the Greater Bay Area Youth Orchestra (GBAYO). He was also selected for the prestigious Tianjin Juilliard Chamber Music Masterclass, where he studied with the Shanghai Quartet. Currently, Fu is pursuing advanced studies at the University of Texas at Austin under the guidance of Bion Tsang, continuing his commitment to musical excellence and artistic innovation.
