- Senior Lecturer in Music and Human Learning
Amy Simmons is Senior Lecturer of Music and Human Learning at the Sarah and Ernest Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Simmons’ ongoing research in music teaching and learning and in music psychology has generated many publications in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, and she regularly presents her work in international, national, and state conferences. She currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Research in Music Education and is Co-chair of the College Division Research Committee for the Texas Music Educators Association, for which she coordinates the online journal Texas Music Education Research and the Research Poster Session at the annual Texas Music Educators Association Clinic and Convention. Before receiving her PhD in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Simmons taught in the Lewisville Independent School District. She continues to play oboe professionally in the Austin and San Antonio areas.
