ABOUT

Eric Garcia is a trombonist and music educator based in Austin, Texas. He is the trombone teaching assistant at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.).

As an active freelance musician, Eric has performed with professional orchestras across Texas. He is the bass trombonist for the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra and the Laredo Philharmonic, and was a substitute musician for the Houston Grand Opera in 2024. As a graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin, he regularly plays with the University’s top ensembles, including the UT Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Trombone Choir. During 2023-2026, Eric performed at the Texas Music Educator Association (TMEA), the American Trombone Workshop, the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA), and the International Trombone Festival (ITF). Eric maintains an active teaching schedule as a private lesson instructor in the Austin area, teaching trombone, euphonium, and tuba. His high school and middle school students have placed highly in TMEA Region auditions over the years and have received superior ratings in Solo and Ensemble competitions.

As a solo performer, Eric has made finals for solo competitions such as the International Women's Brass Conference Bass Trombone Category 1 (2022), the Big 12 Trombone Conference Bass Trombone Division (2022 and 2023), and the American Trombone Workshop Bass Trombone Division 2 (2024).

Eric received his Bachelor of Music in trombone performance from Texas A&M University-Kingsville in May 2023, where he studied with Dr. Oscar Diaz. He received his Master of Music degree from The University of Texas at Austin in May 2025 under the supervision of Dr. Nathaniel Brickens.
