A Star is Born: Artem Kuznetsov's Incredible Year

2024 has been a banner year for Artem Kuznetsov, a DMA student at the Butler School of Music, as he achieved milestones that many musicians can only dream of. The Russian-born pianist solidified his place as one of the rising stars in the classical music world by excelling or winning in multiple prestigious international piano competitions.

Kuznetsov’s achievements this year include being a finalist in the 2024 Dubai Classic Piano Competition, winning the coveted Chopin Award at the Rome International Piano Competition, and claiming the top prize at the Colombia International Piano Competition. These accomplishments came amidst a packed schedule that included many concert performances, a full academic course load, and his responsibilities as a teaching assistant at Butler School of Music.

Hailing from Balashov, Russia, Kuznetsov has built an impressive résumé over the years, with prior wins at competitions such as the Young Texas Artists Music Competition, the American International Competition, the Seattle International Piano Competition, and the Dallas International Piano Competition, among others.

Kuznetsov has played in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Benaroya Hall in Seattle, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, Schloss Ettlingen and Asamsaal in Germany, and the Muziekcentrum Enschede in the Netherlands.
