Soprano Leah Crocetto is joining the Butler School next fall as a Lecturer in Vocal Arts. Described by The New York Times as possessing an “agile coloratura technique and a feeling for the Italianate style… with warmth, full penetrating sound and tenderness,” Ms. Crocetto continues to astonish audiences with her moving portrayals of opera’s greatest heroines.
Ms. Crocetto is an avid performer, starring as Leonora in Verdi’s Il trovatore at Toledo Opera this season. She began the 2021-22 season starring as Leonora in Verdi’s Il trovatore at Toledo Opera, and made her debut with Washington Concert Opera as Anna from Rossini’s Maometto II. Additionally, she returns to Opera Australia as Leonora in Il trovatore at the Sydney Opera House and joins the company in Melbourne for concert performances of Boito’s Mefistofele as Margherita. Her concert appearances include a concert at The Croswell in Adrian, Michigan, to celebrate the return of live performances, and she sings a recital with her longtime collaborator, pianist Mark Markham, at the Lexington Bach Festival.
Of her numerous awards and honors, Ms. Crocetto said she’s proud of her recent Grammy nomination. “Along those same lines I’m proud of my summer of Mahler 8, where I got to perform this great work with both the LA Phil and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and then get nominated for a Grammy for the former performance. But what I’m most proud of for myself and all of my colleagues, is the ability to stay true to our art, hone our craft, and change direction over the past couple of years, during this pandemic. The world was scary but we made music anyways.”
In joining the Butler School faculty, Ms. Crocetto said she’s looking forward to working with students.
“I am so excited to get into the technique of what I do, with the incredible students,” she said. “I love breaking things down and getting back to basics, to get better and improve! I’m also looking forward to being a part of this special community full of lovers of the arts!”
