Please join us in congratulating this year’s Rainwater Grant recipients: Courtney Nottingham, Laura Bock, and Aidan Berg!
Aidan Berg will host renowned Trinidadian artist Etienne Charles for a four-day residency at the Butler School of Music. This residency will include masterclasses, a music business seminar, a guest lecture, and a performance with UT Jazz ensembles. The residency will also feature a collaborative performance with ATX Chamber Music and Jazz at the Mansion.
Laura Bock’s project focuses on commissioning a multi-layered composition designed for students of varying ability levels to perform together. Through the Scoreable Music Project, Laura aims to create flexible repertoire that can be performed independently or combined, allowing students at different skill levels to collaborate seamlessly.
Courtney Nottingham will create professional audio recordings of Spanish-Language Folk Songs for Strings, a collection of transcribed Hispanic and Latinx children’s songs for beginner orchestra students. Inspired by her teaching experience in Kansas City, where 95% of her students were Hispanic, Courtney developed this resource to provide culturally relevant music for young musicians. The grant will fund recordings featuring violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, and voice, as well as professional translations of the lyrics.
We are thrilled to support these innovative projects. Congratulations to Courtney, Laura, and Aidan!
