Professor Robin Moore has been appointed as the new holder of the History of Music Chair in the Butler School of Music.
Endowed chair positions honor some of the college’s most exceptional full professors and support high-level, distinguished academic and research activity for the holder. Faculty members who hold chair positions must sustain a high level of creative or scholarly accomplishment over many years, bringing national and international attention to the university and to their own profile. Chair holders must teach at an exemplary level of effectiveness, provide service to the department, college and university and be a leader in their field by building significant programs, mentoring junior faculty and providing strategic leadership to their department and college.

His research interests include the music of Cuba and the Caribbean, music of Latin America, music curriculum reform and music and race. He also leads the Hispanic Caribbean Ensemble in the Butler School of Music.
“Professor Moore’s scholarly work is prolific, of the highest quality, and is widely read,” said Butler School of Music Director Susan Thomas. “He is the most cited scholar in Cuban music studies. His influence on the field is enormous, both due to his research and publications but also to his sustained track record as a mentor in the field.”
