The National Symphony Orchestra proudly announces the appointment of Evan Williams (MM 17', DMA 21') as Assistant Principal Trombone.  Prior to joining the National Symphony Orchestra, Williams served as Principal Trombone of the Richmond Symphony since 2019, leaving a significant mark on the Virginia music scene. His career trajectory includes positions with the Central Texas Philharmonic and Mid-Texas Symphony, as well as collaborations with renowned ensembles such as the Atlanta Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, and Seattle Symphony.

Williams' musical journey began with a Bachelor of Music degree from Columbus State University, followed by a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. His academic achievements and performance prowess culminated in a remarkable feat in 2019 when Williams swept three competition finals at the International Trombone Association: the ITA Alto Trombone Competition, the Frank Smith Tenor Trombone Solo Competition, and the Lewis Van Haney Orchestral Excerpt Competition, a rare accomplishment in the world of trombone performance.

In addition to his competition successes, Williams clinched the Zellmer Minnesota Orchestra Trombone Excerpt Competition in 2019, following previous finalist recognitions in 2017, 2015, and 2013, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier trombonist.

Beyond his musical endeavors, Williams finds joy in rock climbing, painting, and spending quality time at home with his cat when not engaged in performances or rehearsals.
