In the first part of our "Meet the Opera" podcast episode, we sit down with Dr. Liliana Guerrero, an Assistant Professor of Voice at the Butler School of Music. She shares insights into creating the free kid’s opera workshop Meet the Opera.

 

Meet the Opera" is a six-week series of interactive workshops by Austin Opera and the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, held at various Austin Public Library branches. Each workshop, lasting about an hour, focuses on different aspects of opera, including singers, story, set designers, orchestra, and choreography. Participants engage in live performances, educational activities, and creative projects related to the theme of each workshop. Here's the schedule:

  1. June 4, 2:00 p.m. at Manchaca Branch: The Singers
  2. June 10, 10:00 a.m. at Little Walnut Branch: The Story
  3. June 25, 1:00 p.m. at Windsor Park Branch: The Set Designers
  4. July 10, 2:00 p.m. at Central Branch: The Orchestra
  5. July 18, 6:00 p.m. at Southeast Branch: The Choreographer
  6. July 25, 3:00 p.m. at University Hills Branch: Putting it all Together
