Marissa Guarriello, assistant professor of Music and Human Learning and director of the University of Texas String Project at the Butler School of Music, has been named a semifinalist for the 2027 GRAMMY Music Educator Award.

Presented by the Recording Academy and GRAMMY Museum, the Music Educator Award recognizes music educators who have made a significant and lasting impact on music education. More than 2,000 nominations were submitted for this year’s award, with 25 educators ultimately selected as semifinalists.

Guarriello joined the Butler School of Music in 2025, where she leads the String Project and teaches Music and Human Learning classes. Her recognition as a GRAMMY Music Educator Award semifinalist adds to a growing list of honors for Guarriello. In 2025, she was named one of Yamaha’s “40 Under 40” Music Educators in the United States.

The GRAMMY Music Educator Award process will narrow the 25 semifinalists to 10 finalists, with the finalists announced later this year. The recipient will be honored during GRAMMY Week and attend the 68th Annual GRAMMY Awards in Los Angeles.
