Eli Wyatt, a master’s student at the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin, has been named one of the 13 winners of the 2026 Yamaha Young Performing Artists (YYPA) Competition.
Now in its 37th year, the YYPA program is considered one of the nation’s most prestigious honors for musicians ages 18–22 in classical, jazz, and contemporary music. Winners are selected through a highly competitive national audition process judged by Yamaha Artists and leading music professionals.
As part of the award, Wyatt and the other winners will travel to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, for the YYPA Celebration Weekend June 20–23, 2026. During the event, they will perform for thousands of students and educators attending the Bands of America Summer Camp, receive professional audio and video recordings of their performances, and participate in career development workshops led by internationally acclaimed trumpet soloist and Yamaha Artist José Sibaja.
Since its launch in 1988, the YYPA program has recognized more than 300 musicians, many of whom have gone on to perform with major organizations including The Philadelphia Orchestra and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Wyatt’s selection places him among an elite group of emerging performers from across the country and continues the strong tradition of excellence at the Butler School of Music.
