Butler Student Wins Top Award at Pan-American Vocology Symposium

Sidney Becktold, a senior at the Butler School of Music at The University of Texas at Austin, was awarded Best Student Presentation at the prestigious Pan-American Vocology Symposium in Mexico City for her research titled “Using Cepstral Peak Prominence Values in Research and the Voice Studio.”

Becktold, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Vocal Emphasis and a Bachelor of Science in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, presented under the mentorship of Assistant Professor of Voice Liliana Verónica Guerrero.

Her award-winning work reflects her deep commitment to vocal health, particularly for professional voice users. Becktold also contributes to ongoing research focused on vocal tremor and vocal vibrato, further bridging the gap between vocal performance and scientific inquiry.
