Butler School of Music alumnus Dillon MacIntyre (BM, University of Texas at Austin) will take center stage this weekend with the Santa Barbara Symphony, performing in the world premiere of a newly commissioned work by acclaimed Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodi. The piece, Double Trombone Concerto, features MacIntyre alongside internationally renowned brass virtuoso Christian Lindberg. Performances will take place on November 15th and 16th at The Granada Theatre in downtown Santa Barbara.
Currently serving as the principal trombonist of the Santa Barbara Symphony, MacIntyre has built a dynamic and multifaceted career that bridges concert performance, education, and studio recording. He has performed with many of the world’s leading ensembles, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Denmark’s Prinsens Musikkorps, with tours spanning Europe and Asia.

A sought-after educator, MacIntyre holds teaching positions at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) and California State University, Northridge (CSUN). He is also an active recording artist, having performed on major motion picture soundtracks such as Superman, Ghostbusters, Despicable Me 4, The Smurfs, Twisters, and Moana 2 (Live Action), as well as numerous television shows, albums, and video games.
MacIntyre’s musical journey began at the University of Texas at Austin, followed by advanced studies at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, and Northwestern University. His artistry has earned him top honors at several international competitions, including first prizes at the American Trombone Workshop and the International Trombone Festival.
