Selections from Le Faucon
About the opera
Le Faucon (1786, The Falcon), a sparkling three-act opéra comique by Ukrainian-Russian composer Dmitry Bortniansky (1751-1825), brings Boccaccio’s poignant tale of love, sacrifice, and unexpected happiness to life through elegant melodies, lively ensembles, and a creative blend of 18th-Century Italian lyricism and French comic style. This presentation will be the first U.S. performance of excerpts from Le Faucon with a full orchestra, featuring Butler School voice faculty and staff as soloists.
