About the Program
Supposedly, coming across a feather in your path, or finding one in an unexpected place is thought to be a message from the angels. White Feather is thought to be a sign of faith and protection. It can also be an angel telling you that your loved ones are safe and well. There are other signs, of course. It begs the question, are we watching/listening? Jlin (Jerrilynn Patton) is a producer and composer based in Gary, Indiana. Her unique and evolving electronic sound is rooted in Chicago’s iconic footwork style. With multiple album releases gaining critical acclaim, Perspective, written for Third Coast Percussion, was a 2023 Pulitzer Prize in music finalist. Initially composed using a Digital Audio Workstation, Third Coast Percussion set about determining how to realize these pieces in live performance. Jlin named her piece Perspective as a reference to this unique collaborative process; the same music, interpreted by two different artists and their different modes of expression.
