About the Program
The University of Texas Hispanic Caribbean Ensemble is comprised of current students. Some have close ties to Latin America, others have little firsthand knowledge of its languages and music. All, however, have expressed a desire to learn more about Caribbean heritage. Members meet once a week for general rehearsals, and one or more additional times per week in smaller groups to practice. The Ensemble specializes in music of the Spanish-speaking Caribbean from Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and circum-Caribbean Venezuela, Colombia, and Central America. It encourages participation by the general UT student body. Singers, percussionists, and other instrumentalists are all welcome. For more information contact the directors, Robin Moore robin.moore@austin.utexas.edu and Richard Huntley richard.huntley@austin.utexas.edu.
