About The Artists
Alex Avila
Dr. Alex Avila is one of few tuba/euphonium doublers and has distinguished himself internationally as a solo artist, chamber musician, and educator on both instruments. He was a gold medal recipient in the prestigious Falcone Festival Competition. Alex has also been featured as a soloist with The University of Georgia Wind Ensemble, The Austin Symphonic Band, and The Schwob Wind Ensemble.
Dr. Alex Avila is Lecturer of Tuba and Euphonium at Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music. Prior to this appointment, he served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Texas A&M University – Kingsville. Alex’s students have distinguished themselves by earning spots in the Falcone and MTNA competitions and enjoy a variety of different careers as public school music educators, adjunct university professors, and freelance musicians. Alex earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from The University of Georgia and graduate performance degrees in both euphonium and tuba from The University of Texas at Austin.

Alexandre Maynegre-Torra
Alex Maynegre-Torra has a versatile career as collaborative pianist, orchestral pianist, solo performer and music editor. Maynegre-Torra has enjoyed his work as a collaborative pianist at the Butler School of Music, playing with faculty, guest performers and students since 2010. He has also held positions at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and at the Hartt School of music in Hartford, CT.
Maynegre-Torra is a prize-winner in several competitions in his native Catalonia (Spain) and the United States, and has appeared in concert with cellists Lynn Harrell and Bion Tsang, violinist Joseph Silverstein, the Emerson String Quartet, saxophonist Stephen Page, trombonist James Markey and tubist Demondrae Thurman, among others.
As the principal keyboard of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, he has performed as soloist on Concerto No. 11 in D Major by Haydn, and Capriccio for piano and orchestra by Stravinsky. He also appeared alongside pianist Jeffrey Biegel to perform Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns.

Rick Rowley has given concerts with many of the world’s finest instrumentalists and singers and his performances have taken him throughout the United States, to Europe and Latin America. He has recorded several highly praised solo recordings, as well as chamber music and songs for voice and piano. He is the recipient of the Austin Critics’ Table award for Instrumentalist of the Year and one of the 10 Best Performances of Music and Dance by the Austin Chronicle. Rowley is on the Faculty of the Butler School of Music where he coaches singers, works with collaborative pianists and has taught a variety of classes ranging from Art Song Literature to a History of Broadway. He spent many years in the theater and was involved in over 60 productions as actor, music director and director.
