Biography
Saxophonist Shawna Pennock has been described as “rich and powerful, yet lightly effervescent” by the Classical Voice of North Carolina. A native of Davenport, IA, Pennock is currently in her second year as a Doctor of Musical Arts student studying with Dr. Connie Frigo. Other achievements for Pennock include First Place at the North Carolina MTNA Young Artist competition in 2014, and the Teaching Assistant award, given to students nominated by the faculty for excellence in their field at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2013. She also has a musical film credit in the independent short film Rebuild, which has appeared in numerous film festivals on the East Coast. She is a graduate of The University of Iowa (BM), the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (MM, PAC). Her previous teachers include Dr. Kenneth Tse and Mr. Taimur Sullivan.
