Biographies
David Garcia
David Garcia is Solo Trombonist of the Zürich Opera Orchestra, was appointed to the position in 2007 by Maestro Franz Welser-Möst. He has been Principal Trombone of the Hartford Symphony, Springfield Symphony and Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestras. Frequently in demand as a guest artist, David has played with the New York Philharmonic, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Absolut Ensemble, Alabama Symphony, San Antonio Symphony and on Broadway. Additionally, in Europe David regularly performs with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich and has also played with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Galicia (Spain). From 1997 to 2000, David was Solo Trombonist of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Italy, appointed by Maestro Zubin Mehta.
A versatile low brass player, David is frequently called to play alto, tenor, bass trombone and bass trumpet, as well as historic instruments. He can be heard on the RCA and Phillips labels as well as on many opera DVD's recorded live in Zürich. His critically acclaimed performance of Jeff Tyzik's Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra with the Hartford Symphony was broadcast live on Public Radio in 2004.
David has given master classes at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Yale University, Western Connecticut State University and the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. A native of Texas, he received a Bachelor of Music at the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Music at The Juilliard School. His major teachers were Donald Knaub and Joseph Alessi.
Zachary Bond
A native Texan, Zachary Bond was accepted to Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music when he was sixteen years old. He has performed with some of the world’s leading ensembles, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Canadian Brass, San Diego Symphony, Houston Symphony, Philadelphia Opera, Philadelphia Ballet, Malaysia Philharmonic, Macau Orchestra, and the Singapore Symphony. Bond has also participated in a myriad of summer music festivals, such as the National Repertory Orchestra, Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music Festival, Verbier Festival, Spoleto USA, and Pierre Boulez’s Lucerne Festival.
As a soloist, Bond was the first prize winner of both the 2003 Donald Yaxley Bass Trombone Competition in Helsinki, Finland and the 2006 Edward Kleinhammer Orchestral Bass Trombone Competition in Birmingham, England. He has performed international recitals and master classes at the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, as well as numerous venues in the United States, Brazil, Canada, China, England, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Mexico. Bond was invited as a guest artist at the 2010 International Trombone Festival in Austin, Texas and was invited once again to the 2013 International Trombone Festival in Columbus, Georgia.
Bond is a former member of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and currently holds the position of Principal Bass Trombone with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Professor of Trombone at the National University of Singapore's Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, and is endorsed by Thein Brass Instruments of Bremen, Germany and Willie's Mouthpieces of Japan.
