Alumni Spotlights

Jo Ann Champion (B.M. Music and Human Learning, 2000) was selected as recipient of a Texas Music Educators Association Graduate Scholarship for 2014, and was selected in May as recipient of the Texas Music Educators Association Pat McNallen Scholarship for graduate study. In addition, Champion was one of 98 students at Stephen F. Austin State University nominated by the Faculty Council to Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

Jeremy Marks (D.M.A. Brass/Woodwinds/Percussion, 2013) was recently appointed as Adjunct Professor of Trombone & Euphonium at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. 

Quinton Morris (D.M.A. Strings, 2008) received tenure and promotion to Associate Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at Seattle University. He is the first music professor in 28 years at Seattle University and the second living African-American violinist in the United States history to receive this honor.

 

Linda Patterson (D.M.A., 2012) has been invited to present a Scholarly Paper on the Organ Works of Flor Peeters, and a workshop "Flor Peeters and the American Organist" at the American Guild of Organists' National Convention this summer in Boston. 

Dr. Ian Davidson (M.M., 1983 & D.M.A., 1997) was recognized as a "University Distinguished Professor" for his exceptional work in the School of Music at Texas State University. Davidson will retain the title for the duration of his service. 

Andrew Hallock (B.A. Composition, 2002), counter tenor, is a singer in the Dutch based ensemble "Cappella Pratensis". Earlier this year they released their latest CD 'Missa Ave Maris Stella' by Josquin Desprez.  

James Jeter, (B.M. 1971) bassoon, has been invited to join the Chamber Music Coaching faculty at the 92nd Street Y here in NYC. He continues to perform principal bassoon with the New Jersey Festival Orchestra and various orchestras in the NY/NJ area.

Butler School of Music Alum, Alan E. Hicks (D.M.A., 2009) has been appointed Director of the Emerging Artist Program for the Green Mountain Opera Festival for the 2014 season and stage director for The Rape of Lucretia for the 2014 Festival season. In May of 2014, Alan will direct The Turn of the Screw for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. 

Joseph V. Williams II (DMA, '13), classical guitarist and composer, is the 2013-2014 Composer in Residence for the Austin Classical Guitar Society. 

Jonathan Santore (Music Composition, '87) won The American Prize in Composition 2013, in the category for professional composers of choral music. He is Chair of the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, where he has taught composition and theory since 1994, and is Composer in Residence for the New Hampshire Master Chorale. His composition Front Porch Poems, for mezzo, viola, and piano, is featured on the Chiaroscuro Trio's new CD New People, just issued by Albany Records; Aurelien and Elizabeth Petillot, founding members of Chiaroscuro, are also both alumni of the Butler School of Music.
