Visiting Assistant Professor in Composition
ABOUT
Tanner Jones is a multimedia artist, performer, and software developer. Expanding upon existing creative technologies and programming new ones, their work facilitates interactivity between parameters of audio, video, light, and robotics. Their recent projects examine decay, memory, consumerism, and object-oriented ontology by transforming abandoned objects and musical instruments into living producers of sound, light, video, and movement.
As a performer and improviser of live electronics and visuals, Tanner performs as a solo act and as 1/2 of multimedia duo nofeh/نوفه with Mojgan Misaghi. They also serve as performer and technical designer for Austin-based SoundMap Ensemble.
Tanner develops free and open-source audio/performance software under the name ~degausserDSP. A passionate educator, they currently serve as visiting assistant professor at The University of Texas at Austin, where they teach courses on multimedia art performance and composition. Tanner holds a doctorate in music composition.
