Lecturer in Music and Human Learning
Margie Yankeelov is currently a lecturer in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, where she has worked in the Center for Music and Human Learning since 2016. She teaches "Piano for Teachers" for the music studies students, "Fundamentals of Music: Piano" for non-majors, and "Double Reed Methods" for music studies upper division students as well as a host of independent studies in ear training and directed research. She holds a BM in Music Education and Oboe Performance from Belmont University, an MM in Oboe Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at University of Cincinnati, and a DMA in Music Education from Boston University. Her research interests lie in the formation of auditory representations, which are the foundation of music comprehension and, more specifically, music reading.
Teaching experiences have included K-6 general music in Nashville, private double reed teaching in Nashville public schools and Tennessee State University as well as oboe, music theory and music education courses in the School of Music at Belmont University, where she taught for 12 years. As an oboist, she has done extensive freelancing and studio work in Austin, Nashville, and Cincinnati, playing with groups ranging from the Austin Symphony, Orchestra Nashville and the Nashville Symphony, to artists such as Wynonna Judd, Jewel, Donna Summer, Trey Anastasio, Sutton Foster, and Brave Old World.
