Teaching Assistant in Horn

Lucas Hamilton is an award-winning hornist who was recently named The 2024 Mid-South Horn Workshop graduate solo winner, The 2022 IWBC Solo Horn Category 1 winner, The IHS 54 high horn excerpt winner, and the 2022 IHCA Snedeker Prize winner. Lucas is a classical hornist who shows extreme versatility throughout the entire range of the instrument. Not only has he put up results in his solo and the high range of his horn playing, but also “In the low range, Lucas has clarity, extreme technique, and depth of sound in all dynamics.”—Lanette Compton, Horn professor at Oklahoma State University.

Recently, Mr. Hamilton completed his Master of Music in horn performance at Baylor University. Alongside his schooling, he worked as a private horn instructor in the Waco area and taught at Baylor as a graduate associate. In addition to teaching, Lucas is a freelance musician who performs often with local churches and orchestras.

Over the summers, Hamilton has spent time at the Pierre Monteax and FOOSA music festivals, performing works such as Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. He is also a recurring member of The Conducting Institute (TCI) lab orchestra. Led by the widely known Miguel Harth-Bedoya, TCI provides up and coming conductors a space to rehearse and perform with a live orchestra, an opportunity that is invaluable to conductors and instrumentalists alike.

Mr. Hamilton is currently studying at The University of Texas at Austin with the critically-acclaimed hornist Patrick Hughes, where he is the teaching assistant to the horn studio. In the past, Hamilton studied with Lanette Lopez-Compton at Oklahoma State University and Dr. Kristy Morrell at Baylor University.
