Senior Administrative Associate, University Bands
Jasper Gillespie began her long relationship with Austin in high school, on a trip to the hill country for a concert band festival in 1996. Coming from the dry air, cold nights, and very high altitude of New Mexico, she immediately fell in love with Austin’s hot, humid weather, green rolling hills, gigantic magnolia blossoms, and fireflies. When it came time to pick a school, The University of Texas at Austin was an easy choice—Jasper is a proud graduate of UT’s College of Fine Arts with a degree in Studio Art–Painting. Returning to The University as a staff member has been a challenge, a privilege, and a joy. Jasper’s career at The University began at University Housing and Dining in 2022, and she is excited to join the Butler School of Music in 2025.
Prior to joining The University, Jasper enjoyed a varied career, working as an end-of-life caregiver, a children’s librarian, an instructor of basic ballet for adults, and a commercial jewelry designer. Throughout her travels she has been supported and grounded by family and a network of educators, musicians, and artists. She believes students of the arts not only deserve cultivation of their skill, but also encouragement and direction as future groundbreakers, professionals, and role models.
In her free time, she currently finds the most joy in her gardening and yoga practices, two pursuits that have taught her about patience, and how to recognize and appreciate the subtle differences of daily life.
