
Lecturer in Jazz Guitar
A native of Austin, Texas, Jacob studied at The University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Texas, where he received an M.M. in Jazz Studies and was a member of the renowned One O'Clock Lab Band and a graduate teaching fellow. After graduate school, he spent time studying at ESMUC in Barcelona and participated in the first Antonio Sanchez Jazz Residencia at CENART in Mexico City. He’s studied privately or participated in masterclasses with Adam Rogers, Peter Bernstein, Lage Lund, and Dave Stryker. Jacob has recorded two albums of original music: Paseo, and Jacob Wise Trio, both available on Bandcamp. He’s performed with many of Austin’s top jazz musicians, and spent four years working in the show band aboard Princess Cruises, playing a wide variety of musical styles and visiting over thirty countries.
Jacob is an assistant professor at Austin Community College, where he teaches guitar lessons and jazz ensembles, and also maintains a busy private teaching studio. He has also held teaching positions at Temple College, and Huston-Tillotson University.
