ABOUT
Benedict Ventura is a versatile cellist whose work spans classical repertoire, fiddle tunes, jazz-influenced improvisation, contemporary music, and pop styles. Whether performing major classical works or exploring collaborative cross-genre projects, his music-making is guided by curiosity, thoughtful musical ideas, and a commitment to expressive storytelling.
A few recent and past projects include participation in the Kronos Quartet’s 50 for the Future, Post:ballet’s still be here, and Jake Runestad’s Winter with the Pacific Singers Choir.
In addition to performing, Ventura is passionate about teaching and mentorship. He has previously worked with middle school students at the Oakland Summer Music Camp and currently teaches private lessons to students. Focusing on body-awareness and deep listening, Ventura aims to set up students to be able to play freely and comfortably. He greatly values creating supportive and engaging learning environments while still keeping the learning process fun.
Ventura is a graduate of the Oakland School for the Arts, and is now continuing his studies at The University of Texas at Austin. His mentors include Evan Kahn, Vicky Wang, Megan Chartier, and Bion Tsang.
