
Teaching Assistant in Double Bass String Project Instructor, Double Bass
Andrés Hernández, originally from Puebla, Mexico, is the teaching assistant in Double Bass at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds a Master of Music from The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied with Joel Braun.
Andrés has participated in prestigious music festivals, including La Via dei Concerti, The Next Festival, and the Texas Music Festival. He has participated in master classes with renowned double bass instructors such as Paul Ellison, Mica Howard, Eugene Levinson, and Jeremy Kurtz.
Andrés serves as principal double bass of the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Andrés has collaborated with world-renowned musicians such as Plácido Domingo, Joshua Bell, and Alim Qasimov. He has performed under the baton of distinguished conductors including Valery Gergiev, Mei-Ann Chen, Hans Graf, and Eugene Kohn.
Beyond his performance career, Andrés is a dedicated educator and composer. He is the appointed low strings adjunct faculty at Texas A&M University–Kingsville and also teaches double bass and musicianship at The University of Texas at Austin String Project. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at The University of Texas at Austin, supported by the Butler Excellence Scholarship.
