The voice and opera program provides the vocal training and background necessary to move into professional and educational settings. The diverse faculty brings to the Butler School of Music the highest level of professionalism and performing experience. Our graduates are well prepared for professional careers in opera, higher education and public school teaching. 

Students will find many vocal performance opportunities in the Butler School of Music, from solo recitals to operas to choral ensembles. Among the performance opportunities designed to provide students with experience and growth are: Opera Theatre, Opera Scenes, Graduate Opera performances, the U Opera Workshop, solo/ensemble recitals, opera coaching, the UT Chamber Singers, Concert Chorale, the Choral Arts Society and various community outreach opportunities. The Sarah and Ernest Butler Opera Center presents fully produced productions during the academic year.

Sample Lessons for Prospective Students

The voice faculty are happy to provide a 30-minute sample lesson to prospective students, free of charge. Please contact a voice faculty member directly to request a lesson. Include your name, primary academic interest (B.M. Music Studies, M.M. Performance, etc.), and application semester.
