Brazilian Jazz Beyond Jobim

This concert will feature a selection of standards by Brazilian composers that tend to be overshadowed by the popularity of Antonio Carlos Jobim in the United States. Pieces by composers such as Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento, Toninho Horta, Sivuca, Filó Machado, Hermeto Pascoal, Gilberto Gil, Moacir Santos, Johnny Alf, Egberto Gismonti, and others will be presented in this quartet setting.

Fabio Augustinis is a percussionist and drummer from São Paulo, Brazil. Augustinis has recorded and performed in Brazil and the United States with Nailor “Proveta” Azevedo, Léa Freire, The Des Moines Big Band, Bryan Lynch, Jiggs Wigham, Steve Davis, Joe Lovano, and many others.

Fabio earned a bachelor’s degree from The State University of Campinas, Brazil, a master's degree from The University of Iowa, and is nearing completion of his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is also working as an assistant instructor in the university’s jazz department. In the Spring of 2018, Augustinis released his debut album as a composer, Sunrise. Augustinis is an endorsing artist for Canopus Drums and Bosphorus Cymbals.
