Biography

A 1998 MM UT Alumni, Puerto Rican tenor Rafael Dávila has more than 20 years of experience of international career with a repertory that expands more than 60 roles that includes the operas; Turandot, Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Norma, Otello, Manon Lescaut, Pagliacci, Cavalleria rusticana, Don Carlo, Aida, Ballo in Maschera, La Fanciulla del West, Il Trovatore, and La Forza del Destino, among many others. Dávila has sung for the prestigious opera houses of The Metropolitan Opera, Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Teatro San Carlo, Macerata Festival, The Netherlands Opera and New Zealand Opera, among others. His concert repertory also includes Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde and Rossini’s Stabat Mater, and has been nominated in two occasions at the Latin Grammy awards for his recordings of Ariel Ramirez Misa Criolla and Rafael Hernández opereta Cofresí. Mr. Dávila has been a faculty member at the Puerto Rico Music Conservatory and the Interamerican University, and has given Masterclasses during his engagements in Puerto Rico, Spain, San Francisco, Kansas City, Arizona and New Zealand.
